Workers Day: NBA President Tasks FG On Elevation Of Workers’ Status

The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr Olumide Akpata on Sunday, urged the government to embark on deliberate interventions aimed at elevating the status of workers in Nigeria.

Akpata made the call in a statement to newsmen in Lagos, issued by the NBA National Publicity Secretary, Dr Rapulu Nduka

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that May 1, is an international day set aside to commemorate the advancement of labour movements.

It is also known as May Day or Workers Day and is declared a public holiday.

According to Akpata, the government is called upon on the occasion of the Workers Day celebration 2022, to seek out modalities of elevating workers’ status.

“The NBA calls on the government to make more deliberate interventions to ensure the elevation of the status of the average worker.

“This is by addressing all labour-related issues that have altogether negatively impacted our national growth and productivity.

“The wealth, growth and progress of any Nation, institution or establishment rests on the labour force.

“The International Workers Day thus, provides an opportunity to appreciate members of this ‘growth propelling force’ for their immense contributions,” he said

Akpata, therefore, noted that workers’ day was an opportunity for introspection on the timeless values of dignity of labour and the need for adequate attention to the rights including the welfare of workers by the government.

“On the occasion of this year’s International Workers Day celebration, I on behalf of the association celebrates the Nigerian labour force and workers all over the world,” he said
