Woman Allegedly Murders Husband With Pestle In Niger State
A shocking case of domestic violence has emerged from Lafiyagi Dzwafu village in Katcha Local Government Area, Niger State, where 27-year-old Fatima Dzuma is accused of killing her husband, Baba Aliyu.
The tragic incident occurred during preparations for the naming ceremony of Baba’s first wife’s newborn child. Fatima, who had been married to Baba for three years, allegedly confessed to the murder, citing disinterest in the marriage as her motive.
According to reports, Fatima strangled Baba with a scarf and struck him multiple times with a pestle while he slept, breaking his hand. She then wrapped his body in a mat, dragged it to the backyard, and cleaned the scene to conceal the crime.
For three days, Fatima denied knowing her husband’s whereabouts as Baba’s family searched for him. She later admitted to the act, claiming she acted under the influence of the devil.
The Niger State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident in a statement on January 2, 2025. Baba’s body was discovered in a bush near Katcha on December 31, 2024, after a report from local residents.
Police operatives from the Katcha Division arrested Fatima, who confessed to killing Baba after an alleged violent altercation in which he reportedly beat her. She admitted to attacking him with a pestle while he slept and later disposing of the body in the bush.
The body has been sent to Bida General Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Fatima remains in police custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for further investigation and prosecution.
