Wike’s Ally Seeks Supreme Court’s Intervention As PDP Board Of Trustees Convenes Over Secretary Dispute

The leadership crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a new turn as Samuel Anyanwu, an ally of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, has written to the Supreme Court seeking an accelerated hearing in the ongoing legal battle over the party’s National Secretary position.

In a letter dated January 29, Anyanwu emphasized the importance of the role in stabilizing the PDP, which has been embroiled in internal conflicts since 2023. The crisis deepened after the PDP South-East zone nominated Sunday Ude-Okoye to replace Anyanwu, who had contested the Imo governorship election.

The Court of Appeal ruled in favor of Ude-Okoye on December 20, 2024, but a subsequent ruling on January 27, 2025, allowed Anyanwu to remain in office pending the Supreme Court’s final verdict.

Meanwhile, the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) has scheduled an emergency meeting today in Abuja to deliberate on the escalating leadership dispute. The meeting, initially set for the party’s Wadata Plaza headquarters, was moved to Transcorp Hilton due to security concerns following last week’s chaotic scenes when Anyanwu’s supporters forcibly removed Ude-Okoye from a BoT gathering.

Despite the governors’ endorsement of Ude-Okoye as National Secretary, Anyanwu continues to assert his authority, filing legal motions to expedite the Supreme Court’s ruling. He argues that the prolonged dispute is harming both PDP members and the political landscape.

With tensions running high and key stakeholders divided, today’s BoT meeting is expected to shape the party’s next steps in resolving the crisis.
