Who is Yakubu Chonoko (Y.C) Maikyau, SAN? By Habiba J. Madugu (NBA Jalingo Branch)

My encounter with Y. C. Maikyau SAN, has made me realize that a person’s name has an impeccable impact on their personality either directly or indirectly. The Hausa word ‘Maikyau’ means ‘Goodness’ and this wonderful fellow doesn’t fall short of that. He exudes goodness effortlessly to the bewilderment of everyone.
His persona would intrigue any aspiring or struggling Lawyer as he makes the profession appear seamless and fascinating. I am yet to see any practicing Lawyer that radiates so much passion that matches the euphoria Maikyau uses to dispatch his duties.
His clientele says it all, without any doubt, Y C Maikyau, SAN was born for the Bar.
Despite being a Senior Advocate of Nigeria for more than a decade, he remains humble and interacts amidst junior Lawyers with very friendly and approachable mien. What’s more intriguing is his ability to strike a perfect balance between being friendly and firm at the same time. Maikyau isn’t a leader you run away from due to harshness, but then, he isn’t the type you could take for granted. He is highly result oriented and motivates everyone around him to put in their best and become achievers too. He is filled with wisdom and you can’t afford not to tap a knowledge or two, whenever you are around him.
A critical mind like Y. C. Maikyau SAN, is a great asset and I am very confident that having him become the next NBA President would attract nothing short of ‘Goodness’ to the Bar.
