[VIDEO] NBA Introduces Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Rules For Lawyers

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has introduced the Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD) Rules, 2025, requiring all lawyers to engage in continuous learning. The NBA says the new rules will improve legal practice and ensure high professional standards.

Under the new rules, all legal practitioners must complete accredited Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programs each year. These programs aim to enhance lawyers’ skills and the quality of legal services in Nigeria.

The NBA has set a minimum requirement of five credit hours annually for all practicing lawyers. The association’s Institute of Continuing Legal Education (NBA-ICLE) will oversee compliance and ensure that legal practitioners fulfill the requirements.

The NBA said the MCPD rules reflect its commitment to upholding professional excellence in Nigeria’s legal sector. By making continuing education mandatory, the NBA seeks to equip lawyers with the necessary skills to navigate evolving legal challenges.

Legal practitioners can access full details of the MCPD Rules, 2025, on the NBA website.

The association urges all lawyers to comply with the new requirements to maintain their practicing status. See video below>>>>>>
