UNIBEN Law Class Of ’91 Celebrates Omoregie’s Appointment As Vice Chancellor With Special Dinner
Alumni from the University of Benin’s Faculty of Law, Class of 1991, hosted a celebratory dinner in Lagos on January 19, 2025, to honor Professor Edoba Omoregie following his recent appointment as Vice Chancellor of the university.
Professor Omoregie, an expert in constitutional law and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), was appointed as the 11th Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin by the governing council in October 2024. His classmates gathered to recognize this significant milestone in his career.
During the event, Ekemejero Ohwovoriole (SAN), the Delta State Attorney General and a former coursemate, praised Omoregie’s integrity and focus. “He is my childhood friend, and I can attest to his character and dedication. He has clear plans for the university, and we are here to support him,” Ohwovoriole stated.
Wellington Agharese, Managing Director of XPO Marine Services Limited and another classmate, encouraged Omoregie to embrace bold visions for the university. “You have a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact. This is just the beginning,” he urged.
In response to the accolades, Professor Omoregie expressed his gratitude for the recognition from his peers. “This is a major honor, and I sincerely thank them for this kind gesture. My appointment is a call to service, not self-glorification. My focus will be on making a positive impact on students and enhancing faculty welfare,” he remarked.
He outlined his vision for the university, emphasizing a five-point agenda that includes academic excellence, vocational training, student and staff welfare, infrastructural development, and fostering unity on campus. “We aim to achieve these goals over the next four to five years,” he added.
The gathering not only celebrated Omoregie’s appointment but also reinforced the strong bonds among alumni committed to supporting their alma mater as it continues to uphold its reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading universities.
