Tinubu Grants Posthumous Honours And Support To Slain Soldiers’ Families
In a solemn ceremony held at the National Cemetery, Abuja, President Bola Tinubu conferred posthumous national honours on the 17 soldiers who tragically lost their lives in the Okuama community of Delta State. The announcement of this gesture was made by Dada Olusegun, the special assistant to President Tinubu on social media.
President Tinubu arrived at the venue of the burial ceremony to pay his respects to the fallen heroes. He was received as the special guest of honour, alongside several dignitaries including Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, Kano State Governor, Yusuf Abba Gida, and other prominent figures from various states and branches of the armed forces.
The soldiers, who were killed while on a peace mission in Delta State, were posthumously honoured with the Member of the Order of Niger (MON) for the four ranking officers and the Officer of the Federal Republic (OFR) for the remaining 13 officers.
President Tinubu also announced additional support measures for the families of the deceased soldiers during his speech at the burial ceremony. He pledged that the federal government would provide housing for each family, allowing them to choose their preferred location within the country. Furthermore, he assured that the children of the fallen heroes would receive full educational scholarships up to the university level, extending even to unborn children yet to be born. Additionally, President Tinubu appealed to the Military Pensions Board to ensure that all entitlements of the fallen soldiers are disbursed within 90 days.
