Tinubu Celebrates Justice Mary Odili’s 72nd Birthday
Former Governor of Lagos State and leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has extended his warm wishes to retired Supreme Court Judge, Justice Mary Odili, on the occasion of her 72nd birthday.
In a press release issued by his Media Adviser, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu commended Justice Odili not only for her remarkable achievements in the legal profession but also for her dedication to uplifting the less privileged and providing support to those in need.
Tinubu fondly reminisced about Justice Odili’s impactful community development initiatives during her tenure as the First Lady of Rivers State. Notably, he highlighted “The Adolescent Project (TAP),” which focused on enhancing education, healthcare, social rehabilitation, and empowerment services for vulnerable adolescent girls. The project, which directly benefited over 500,000 citizens, earned global recognition, including the prestigious Global Health Council Award for Safe Motherhood in Washington D.C. in May 2001.
Expressing his best wishes, President Tinubu conveyed his hopes for Justice Odili’s continued service to the nation in good health, acknowledging her illustrious career as an eminent jurist.
Throughout her career, Justice Odili has held prominent positions such as Deputy Chairman of the National Judicial Council (NJC), where she served alongside the Chief Justice of the Federation. She also served as President of the National Association of Women Judges of Nigeria (NAWJN) and Chairperson of the Body of Benchers.
Under her leadership, the Body of Benchers underwent significant reforms, including the optimization of the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee and the revitalization of mentoring programs for young lawyers, among other initiatives aimed at enhancing efficiency and professionalism within the legal profession.
