Tinubu Appoints Atiku’s Former Campaign Spokesperson, Abuja Lawyer Daniel Bwala As Media Adviser

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Daniel Bwala, a former spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 presidential campaign, as his special adviser on public communications and media.

The announcement was made on Thursday through a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s special adviser on information and strategy. In addition to Bwala, the president also named Olawale Olopade as the director-general (DG) of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Abisoye Fagade as the DG of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism, and Adebowale Adedokun as the DG of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP).

According to the statement, Olopade brings a wealth of experience as a seasoned sports administrator, having served as Ogun State Commissioner for Youth and Sports and chaired the local organizing committee for the 2024 National Sports Festival.

Dr. Abisoye Fagade, appointed as DG of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism, is a marketing communications expert and founder of Sodium Brand Solutions.

Adebowale Adedokun, the new DG of the Bureau of Public Procurement, was previously the bureau’s director of research, training, and strategic planning.

On Bwala’s appointment, the statement described him as a distinguished lawyer and public affairs analyst. “The president enjoins the newly appointed officers to discharge their duties with dedication, patriotism, and excellence,” the statement read.

Bwala’s appointment has drawn attention due to his previous role as a vocal critic of Tinubu during the 2023 election campaign. In January 2024, Bwala had stated he would welcome an appointment from Tinubu but clarified that his support for the administration was not based on seeking a role.

Before the elections, Bwala left the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Despite his past affiliations, Bwala has repeatedly expressed his commitment to supporting Tinubu’s government to ensure its success.

During a visit to President Tinubu earlier this year, Bwala remarked that if his support for the administration necessitated a return to the APC, “so be it.”
