The Conviviality Of Enugu State Lawyers’ Forum By Chidi Udekwe, Esq.

Enugu State Lawyers’ Forum was established by indigenous Lawyers of Enugu State extraction who reside and practice in Abuja and environs about 8 years ago in Abuja. The main objects and pursuits of the Forum are for the welfare of its members and to use the platform to advance the cause of fairness, equity and justice.

It was in the Nigerian Bar Association Abuja Branch (Unity Bar) election in 2019 that the Forum’s existence was threatened by the conflicting interests of two of her prominent members, Chidi Udekwe Esq and Godwin Diugwu Esq. The duo at that time were vying for the same post of Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association Abuja Branch (Unity Bar).

It was at this juncture that Captain Peter Ozoagu (RTD) became the first ever duly elected Chairman of the Forum. Under his leadership, the Forum was nurtured to a formidable body with the main objective of catering for the welfares of members and by extension, non-lawyers of Enugu indigenes in Enugu and Abuja.

Captain Peter Ozoagu’s (RTD) tenure heralded the election of the current Chairperson Chief (Mrs) Juliet Ukoha-Okoye (Ugo Nwanyi). Since her emergence, she has shown dexterity in piloting the affairs of the Forum. Indeed, her tenure has reaffirmed the place of women as natural unifiers and achievers.

She has broken all barriers by tapping across judicial and political hemisphere of Enugu State to uplift welfare of members of the Forum and Enugu State in general. Currently, the Forum has a pet project to renovate three (3) Nos Primary Schools in the 3 Senatorial Zones of the State. This project has been recognised and commended by reputable Enugu indigenes.

In recognition of her sterling leadership qualities, Y. C. Maikyau SAN has volunteered to host the next meeting of the Forum coming up on 25th Day of March 2022 (today) at Banquet Hall, Merit House, Maitama Abuja. Arrangements are on top gear to deliver a world class meeting where variant issues affecting members of the Forum, Enugu State and NBA would be discussed.

It is worthy to note that the Forum has produced the current Secretary of Otu Okaiwu in the person of Dr. Nicholas I. Udeh. It has also produced former executive officers of NBA Abuja (Unity Bar): Chidi Udekwe Esq (Provost), Godwin Diugwu Esq (Legal Adviser) and Ozo Eze Ajuluchukwu Esq (Publicity Secretary).

I commend first, Y. C. Maikyau SAN for hosting this esteemed Forum. I equally commend and congratulate the Forum’s Executive for enviable leadership and members of the Forum for their good faith as we congregate again for the March Meeting.

There is more to come! Leadership is key!

Chidi Udekwe Esq
