Ariyo, a student at Obada Idi-Emi High School in Imeko Afon Local Government Area, Ogun State, has reportedly died after receiving 162 strokes of the cane from a teacher, allegedly as punishment for breaking a dustbin. The incident was brought to light by activist Adetoun, who posted details on Instagram.
According to Adetoun, the teacher had initially placed a dustbin in the classroom, instructing students not to damage it. Ariyo, in a light-hearted manner, reportedly commented that the dustbin was purchased with students’ money. This remark allegedly angered the teacher, leading to the severe punishment.
The incident has sparked public outrage and calls for an investigation into the teacher’s actions.
