Governor Uzodimma Swears In Justice Theophilus Nzeukwu as Acting Chief Judge of Imo State
Imo State Gets New Acting Chief Judge

Governor Hope Uzodimma has sworn in Justice Theophilus Nzeukwu as the acting Chief Judge of Imo State. His appointment comes five months after the state remained without a Chief Judge.
NJC’s Decision Led to Vacancy
The vacancy arose after the National Judicial Council (NJC) recommended the immediate retirement of former Chief Judge Justice Chukwuemeka Chikeka for age falsification. The NJC also ordered the retirement of Yobe State’s Grand Kadi, Kadi Babagana, on similar grounds.
Swearing-in Ceremony in Owerri
Uzodimma administered the oath of office to Nzeukwu at the Sam Mbakwe Executive Chambers in Owerri. He also swore in two new commissioners, Prof. Bernard Thompson Ikegwuoha and Dr. Vivian Egu.
Lawyers Demand Leadership in Judiciary
Legal professionals had urged the government to appoint a Chief Judge to oversee case assignments and ensure efficient judicial administration. They believe Nzeukwu’s appointment will restore stability to Imo State’s justice system.
Nzeukwu’s Legal Journey
Justice Nzeukwu hails from Egwedu-Atta Autonomous Community in Njaba LGA. He studied law at the University of Lagos and trained at the Nigerian Law School in Lagos.
After completing his National Youth Service at the Akwa Ibom Ministry of Justice, he practiced law at A.B.C. Iketuonye & Co. in Owerri. He later served as Chief Magistrate, Deputy Chief Registrar, Chief Registrar, and High Court Judge in Imo State.
Expectations for Nzeukwu’s Tenure
With extensive judicial experience, Nzeukwu is expected to enhance efficiency, integrity, and fairness in the Imo State judiciary. His leadership will strengthen judicial processes and uphold the rule of law.
