Speed Darlington’s Lawyer Withdraws From Legal Representation
Stanley Alieke, Esq., counsel to Nigerian rapper Darlington Okoye, widely known as Speed Darlington, has officially stepped down from representing the artist.
Alieke announced his decision on Sunday, January 26, 2025, through a post on his Instagram account. He stated:
“I & my law firm (Law Capitol) have officially withdrawn from legally representing Mr. Darlington Achakpo PKA Speed Darlington/Akpi & henceforth cease to act as his legal attorneys.”
The withdrawal follows a tumultuous period for Speed Darlington, who was recently released after spending two months in detention. His arrest on November 27, 2024, came after allegations of defamation and cyberstalking filed by Afrobeats star Burna Boy (Damini Ogulu).
The charges were linked to comments Darlington made mocking Burna Boy’s Grammy win and his collaboration with American rapper Diddy.
Despite a court order on December 23, 2024, directing his release or appearance within 48 hours, Darlington remained in custody through the festive season. He was eventually granted bail on January 15, 2025, under stringent conditions, including a ₦20 million bond, surrendering his passport, and providing a Level 10 civil servant as surety.
Darlington’s trial for defamation and cyberstalking is slated to commence on March 18, 2025.
With Alieke’s departure, it remains uncertain who will take up Darlington’s legal representation as he prepares for trial. The withdrawal could present challenges for the artist, who faces significant legal hurdles in the coming months.
This development adds a new dimension to the ongoing legal battle, raising questions about Darlington’s defense strategy moving forward.
