Speed Darlington Released After Two Months Of Detention

Nigerian singer Darlington Achakpo, better known as Speed Darlington, has regained his freedom after two months of detention.
His lawyer, Stan Alieke, shared the news on social media, expressing relief and confirming that Speed Darlington was released following what he described as “illegal incarceration.” Alieke stated, “We are delighted to announce that our client, Mr. Darlington Achakpo aka Speed Darlington, has regained his freedom. He had been unlawfully detained for two months.”
Alieke also vowed to pursue legal action, emphasising that the team would explore all legal avenues to ensure justice for Speed Darlington, whose fundamental human rights were allegedly violated by the Nigerian Police Force. He also acknowledged the support from fellow lawyers and expressed gratitude on behalf of his client.
Speed Darlington had been in police custody since November 2024 after allegedly jumping bail. The police are investigating him following a petition from fellow artist Burna Boy, who claimed the singer defamed him in a video released in December 2024. In the video, Speed Darlington insinuated that Burna Boy won a Grammy Award after allegedly “bending down” for music mogul Diddy.
