Seun Kuti Issues Public Apology To Bolaji Ayorinde, SAN Over P&ID Fraud Allegations

Seun Kuti, the Afrobeat musician and son of the legendary Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, has publicly apologized to Bolaji Ayorinde, SAN for defamatory and libelous statements made against the senior lawyer.
In a video posted on social media, Seun had suggested that Ayorinde deliberately leaked information to Process and Industrial Development (P&ID) while representing Nigeria in arbitration proceedings related to their disputed gas contract.
Additionally, Seun declared his readiness to face Ayorinde in court over the controversy surrounding the P&ID gas processing contract case.
Subsequently, Ayorinde filed a lawsuit against Seun for libel and defamation of character before the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan.
During the hearing on April 18, 2024, both parties informed the court that they had reached a settlement and adopted the terms thereof, which were dated April 15, 2024.
They requested the court to adopt the terms of settlement as its judgment, which Justice K. Olawoyin duly did.
As part of the settlement, Seun unequivocally retracted his statements made on his Instagram Handle @bigbirdkuti on October 31, 2023, against Chief Ayorinde, acknowledging that they were untrue and unfounded.
He specifically stated that Ayorinde did not leak confidential documents, sabotage Nigeria’s interests, commit treachery, or charge exorbitant fees in the P&ID arbitration matter.
Seun further expressed remorse for impugning Ayorinde’s character and reputation, publicly recanting and retracting his previous allegations.
The resolution of the dispute highlights the importance of responsible communication and the potential consequences of making defamatory statements.
