Senior Lawyers, Including Falana, Amnesty Legal Adviser, Urge FG To Comply With SERAP Court Judgments

Prominent legal figures, including Femi Falana, SAN, and Amnesty International’s Legal Adviser, Dr. Kolawole Olaniyan, have called on the Federal Government to enforce two court rulings obtained by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP).

The first judgment from the Federal High Court in Abuja mandates the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate electoral violence, bribery, and vote-buying during the 2023 elections, especially involving governors and their deputies. The court ordered INEC to appoint independent counsel to ensure accountability.

The second ruling, delivered by the Federal High Court in Lagos, requires the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Sadia Umar-Farouk, to provide details of N729 billion in payments made to 24.3 million Nigerians, including the beneficiaries and mechanisms of the disbursements.

Falana and other lawyers emphasized the importance of obeying the judgments, citing their impact on democracy, electoral justice, and transparency in governance.
