Senior Advocate, Wole Olanipekun Demands Probe Into False Publication By Peoples Gazette
Renowned Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Chief Wole Olanipekun, has called for a thorough investigation into what he terms a false and malicious publication by the online platform, the Peoples Gazette.
In a petition drafted by his legal representatives, Dr. Joy Musa, SAN, and Olalekan Ojo, titled “In the Matter of the Malicious Publication by the Peoples Gazette Against the Name and Person of Chief Wole Olanipekun, OFR, CFR, SAN Relating to Charge No. FCT HC CR 1 1 2020 FRNV. Mohammed Adore SAN & 6 Ors,” Olanipekun condemns the trending article targeted at discrediting his reputation.
The publication, according to the petition, sought to tarnish the esteemed lawyer’s name in relation to a legal case where he represented the second defendant, Alhaji Abubakar A. Aliyu. However, Olanipekun emphasizes that the recent ruling in the case, delivered by Judge Kutigi on March 28, 2024, resulted in the discharge of all defendants based on the merits of the case, not due to any concessions by the prosecution.
The petition further urges the Nigeria Police Force to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and make their findings public. Olanipekun emphasized the need to hold the perpetrators accountable for their actions, as the false publication could have serious consequences for his reputation and professional standing.
Moreover, the petition clarifies that Olanipekun did not represent Mohammed Bello Adoke, SAN, in the case as alleged in the publication. Instead, a team of six Senior Advocates, led by Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN, represented Adoke. The petition underscores Olanipekun’s commitment to upholding justice and integrity in his legal practice, highlighting his extensive experience and contributions to the legal profession in Nigeria.
In light of these developments, Olanipekun emphasizes the importance of ensuring that justice prevails and calls for swift action to address the false publication and its implications.
