Rivers Judges Prepare For Easter Break, Temporary Vacation Judges Appointed

The Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Chibuzor Amadi, announced that Rivers High Court judges will begin their Easter vacation on Monday, April 14, 2025. The judges will return on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.
The Chief Registrar, David Dáhua Maduenyi, issued a statement explaining the decision. He said the vacation follows Order 49, Rule 4B of the High Court Civil Procedure Rules 2023. The statement confirmed that urgent applications will still be heard during the break. A designated judge will remain on duty for emergency matters.
The decision to grant an Easter vacation affects all the judges at the Rivers High Court. They will handle only urgent matters during the break. The judges will resume regular sittings on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, as scheduled.
This vacation aligns with the court’s tradition and promotes judicial rest and efficiency. The decision also signals that the judiciary remains responsive to urgent cases during holidays. The Chief Judge stressed that judicial responsibilities continue even during vacation periods. The temporary break will not hinder the court’s ability to protect citizens’ rights.
The announcement follows similar breaks observed by other courts across Nigeria. The ruling emphasizes that judicial duty persists and that emergency matters receive priority. The statement further noted that the vacation will not affect the proper administration of justice in Rivers. The judges have committed to maintaining their readiness for any urgent filing.
Legal practitioners and citizens are advised to note the change in the court calendar. They should file urgent applications with the designated judge during the vacation period. The court will communicate any changes to the public through its official channels. The move aims to balance rest for the judges with the continuous delivery of justice in Rivers State.
