Rivers Assembly Accuses Governor Fubara, Deputy Of Misconduct, Issues Notice

The Rivers State House of Assembly has issued a formal notice accusing Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, of gross misconduct.
The notice, signed by 26 lawmakers, was submitted to the Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, on Monday, citing violations under Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and other existing laws.
The lawmakers accused Fubara of multiple offences, including:
Unconstitutional and reckless spending of public funds.
Obstructing the legislative activities of the Assembly.
Appointing officials into government positions without due screening and confirmation.
Withholding salaries and allowances meant for the Assembly and its Clerk, Emeka Amadi.
Allegations Against the Deputy Governor
The Assembly also accused Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu of colluding with Fubara by supporting the alleged illegal appointment of officials without legislative approval.
Upon receiving the notice, Speaker Amaewhule forwarded it to Governor Fubara, highlighting that the allegations were raised by at least one-third of the Assembly members.
Citing Section 188(3) of the Constitution, Amaewhule reminded Fubara that the House must decide within 14 days whether to proceed with an investigation.
He urged the governor to respond accordingly and extended his “esteemed regards.”
