Reinstated Edo Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu Defects To APC

Philip Shaibu, the reinstated Deputy Governor of Edo State, has officially left the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to rejoin the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the November governorship election.

Speaking in Benin City, the state capital, Shaibu expressed his enthusiasm about returning to the APC alongside prominent members of the Dan Orbih-led “Legacy Group” from the PDP, aiming to bolster the party’s strength.

Arriving at the venue around 2:05 p.m., Shaibu first paid homage to former state governor, Senator Adams Oshiomhole. He emphasized their readiness to reclaim the state under the leadership of APC governorship candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo.

“On behalf of the Legacy Group, I announce our movement to the APC. We have come to add value to the party,” Shaibu stated. “It is time to take back our state. We will not talk too much because action will speak for us. We are not afraid. We are ready to move forward.”

He further asserted the commitment of the group to the APC’s cause, saying, “We, the homeboys, are ready to take our state back through the APC governorship candidate, Monday Okpebholo, and his running mate, Dennis Idahosa. We are not troublemakers, but if it comes, we will use it to rub our bodies, and we move on.”

Shaibu’s defection marks a significant shift in Edo State’s political landscape as the governorship election approaches.
