Ex-Minister Kabiru Turaki Arraigned For Adultery, Criminal Intimidation, Granted N1m Bail
A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Magistrate Court has granted N1 million bail to Kabiru Taminu Turaki (SAN), a former Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, following his arraignment on charges of false marriage, adultery, and criminal intimidation.
Turaki, who appeared before the Wuse Zone 2 Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, pleaded not guilty to the charges outlined in the First Information Report (FIR).
According to the FIR, the former minister is accused of deceitfully inducing a belief of lawful marriage, adultery, and issuing threats, in violation of Sections 383, 387, and 389 of the Penal Code. The case originated from a petition dated August 9, 2024, submitted to the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force CID, Abuja.
The charges allege that between 2014 and 2021, Turaki cohabited with Ms. Hadiza Musa Baffa at different locations under the false pretense of marriage, resulting in the birth of a child. He is further accused of denying paternity and issuing threats against the woman and her child.
Following his plea, prosecuting counsel Chijioke Okorie requested a date for trial, while Turaki’s lawyer, A.I. Mohammed, applied for bail, assuring the court of his client’s commitment to attending proceedings.
Presiding Magistrate Abubakar Jega granted bail at N1 million, requiring two sureties who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and provide proof of residence. The case was adjourned to March 11, 2025, for trial.
