Presidency Dismisses Kemi Badenoch’s Allegation Of Police Stealing Her Brother’s Shoe As “C0ck And Bull Story”
The Nigerian Presidency has dismissed remarks made by Kemi Badenoch, the newly elected leader of the UK Conservative Party, about her alleged experiences in Nigeria, labeling them as a “c0ck and bull story.”
Badenoch had recounted in an interview how her brother was allegedly robbed of his shoe by Nigerian police officers, citing the incident as part of her upbringing in the country.
Reacting on his X account, President Bola Tinubu’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, accused Badenoch of fabricating the narrative. Ajayi stated:
“You are Kemi Badenoch, an opposition leader and a future Prime Minister of the UK. A journalist asked you about the state of the police in the country you hope to govern. Instead of addressing how you would improve the efficiency and accountability of the UK police, you resorted to a cock and bull story about Nigerian policemen stealing your brother’s shoe.”
Ajayi further questioned the authenticity of Badenoch’s broader claims about her Nigerian upbringing, describing them as inconsistent.
“Her story about carrying a desk and chair to school at ISL [International School Lagos] didn’t add up. Her claim of lacking clean water is baloney, considering she grew up in an upper-middle-class family with her mother as a university professor and her father as a successful medical doctor running a private hospital catering to a wealthy clientele.”
Ajayi suggested that Badenoch’s alleged narrative was fabricated to appeal to her new audience, casting doubt on the credibility of her account.
