Police Uncover ‘Yahoo School’ In Lagos, Arrest Key Suspects

The Lagos State Police Command has dismantled an illegal cybercrime training center, commonly known as a “Yahoo School,” operating in the Iju area of Lagos.

In a statement on Monday, the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that officers arrested four alleged cyber fraud experts running the facility. Authorities identified the suspects as Chibuike Ihejika (23), Stanley Ihejika (22), Obiora Oyediba (26), and Emmanuel Oyediba (25).

Additionally, authorities apprehended six trainees undergoing cybercrime and fraud training. They include Okorie Henry, Otoh Chisom (20), Okeke Kwufrochikwu (26), Uchenna Obeji (26), Minachi Udochukwu (12), and Chinedu Ukachukwu (23).

Recruitment and Investigation

Preliminary investigations revealed that the principal suspects recruited their trainees from Anambra State and engaged them in internet fraud. The trainers reportedly seized the proceeds from their illicit activities.

Authorities have transferred all suspects to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, for further investigation and prosecution. They are also working to apprehend the financiers behind the operation and have urged the facility owner to surrender to the police immediately.

Underage Victim Rescued

Among the suspects was Minachi Udochukwu, a 12-year-old boy found with healing injury marks allegedly inflicted by one of the trainers to force his participation in cybercrime. Medical personnel are currently treating him, and authorities have placed him under protective custody until they identify his relatives.

Police Warning to Parents

Hundeyin urged parents and guardians to closely monitor their children’s activities to prevent criminals from exploiting or luring them into illegal acts.

The Lagos State Police Command has assured that it will prosecute all suspects upon completing investigations.
