Police, Military Rescue Kidnapped Naval Officer, Others From Fulani Settlement In Nasarawa

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, in collaboration with the Nigerian military, successfully rescue a kidnapped naval officer and two civilians from a Fulani settlement in Nasarawa State.

Heavily armed assailants abducted the victims on March 21, 2025, during an attack at the Maman Vatsa Estate gate in Mpape, Abuja. The attackers blocked Mpape Road, opened fire on moving vehicles, and seized three individuals.

Shortly after the abduction, the kidnappers demanded a ransom of ₦500 million for the naval officer and ₦200 million each for the two civilians.

Following a swift response, FCT Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) Isyaku Sharu led a joint security operation.

The operation involved the Police Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Nigerian military, the Department of State Services (DSS), and local hunters’ groups.

Acting on credible intelligence, security operatives traced the kidnappers to a Fulani settlement in Anguwan Mu’azu and Yelwa Hills, spanning areas in both the FCT and Nasarawa State. Between 2:00 AM and 5:30 AM on March 23, 2025, the operatives raided the hideout, arresting four suspects and rescuing the hostages unharmed. Authorities also recovered ₦3.2 million, suspected to be proceeds from previous ransom payments.

The Nigerian Army Clinic is providing medical attention to the rescued individuals, who are reported to be in stable condition.

Meanwhile, authorities have reinforced security in Mpape and surrounding areas to prevent future attacks. The FCT Police Command has urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities using the emergency hotlines: 08032003913, 08028940883, 07057337653, and Complaint Response Unit: 08107314192.

Security agencies have launched a manhunt for the remaining kidnappers and assure the public that they are making every effort to bring them to justice.
