Police Kill Three Suspected Kidnappers, Rescue Lawyer And Niece In Akwa Ibom
Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have neutralized three suspected kidnappers during a gun battle at their hideout and successfully rescued a lawyer, Emmanuel Ubengama, and his niece.
Ubengama, a director at the Ministry of Justice in Abak Local Government Area, and his niece were abducted on the evening of Wednesday, December 4, along the Abak–Ikot Abasi road. The duo was ambushed while returning to Abak after visiting a school.
Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, deployed tactical operatives to track down the culprits. The operation led the team to a hideout in Ikot Ukpong village, located in the Afahaobong area of Abak LGA.
During a fierce gunfight, three of the suspects were killed, while others fled. Following the encounter, police discovered the victims tied up inside a specially constructed soakaway and promptly rescued them.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Timfon John, confirmed the operation, adding that efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects. He reiterated the Commissioner’s zero-tolerance stance on crime, especially with the festive season approaching.
John also urged citizens to collaborate with law enforcement by sharing intelligence to help prevent crimes in the region.
