Police Issue Wanted Alerts For British National And Associate Over Alleged Coup Plot Against Tinubu

The Nigeria Police have declared Andrew Wynne, a British national also known as Andrew Povich or Drew Povey, and Lucky Ehis Obiyan wanted in connection with an alleged coup plot against President Bola Tinubu.

In a briefing on Monday in Abuja, Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi revealed that Wynne, identified as a foreign mercenary, had been involved in sponsoring terrorism within Nigeria. The police discovered that Wynne had established a network of sleeper cells aimed at toppling the government and causing national instability. He reportedly used a rented space at Labour House, Abuja, under the guise of an “Iva Valley Bookshop” and “STARS of Nations Schools” to facilitate his activities.

According to ACP Adejobi, Wynne directed, financed, and guided operations intended to achieve an unconstitutional regime change. He allegedly mobilized billions of naira to Nigerian collaborators, encouraging them to incite violence and storm police and military facilities, with the goal of provoking international condemnation of the Nigerian government. These actions are said to violate the Terrorism (Prevention) Act 2011 and other related laws.

Wynne has since fled the country, and a global search for him and his local coordinator, Lucky Ehis Obiyan, is underway. Additionally, ten suspects linked to the alleged plot have been arraigned in court for charges including Criminal Conspiracy, Terrorism Financing, Treasonable Felony, Subversion, and Cybercrime. The accused are Angel Love Innocent, Opaluwa Eleojo Simeon, Michael Tobitoba Adaramoye (AKA Leni), Suleiman Yakubu, Buhari Lawal, Mosiu Sadiq, Abayomi Adeyemi, Abdulsalam Zubairu, Nuradeen Hamis, and Bashir Bello.

On the involvement of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), ACP Adejobi clarified that the invitation extended to certain NLC leaders was not related to the union’s advocacy activities but was part of the investigation into their connections with Wynne. He emphasized that the police are seeking to clarify the extent of the NLC’s involvement in the alleged plot.

The investigation aims to uncover the full scope of Wynne’s subversive network and prevent further threats to national security.
