Police Arrest Lawyer For Alleged Forgery In Loan Application

The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a legal practitioner, identified as Onuoha, for allegedly forging documents to secure a bank loan.

The arrest, which took place on January 22, 2025, in Ikorodu, followed an investigation by the Special Fraud Unit (SFU). Police reports indicate that Onuoha allegedly forged a lease agreement for a property in Teachers’ Estate, Ikorodu. The forged document was reportedly submitted to the Bank of Industry as part of a loan application for her pure water production business.

According to the SFU, the lawyer had repeatedly ignored invitations to address the allegations. Law enforcement officers tracked her down after several attempts to secure her cooperation.

Eyewitnesses at the scene of the arrest reported that Onuoha attempted to evade capture by seeking refuge in a court premises but was intercepted by security personnel at the court’s gate. She was eventually apprehended along a nearby road around 7:30 p.m.

Commissioner of Police for the Special Fraud Unit, Ayo Omodeinde, confirmed the arrest. He stated that the investigation began in June 2024 following a forgery complaint. “The lawyer is accused of forging a lease agreement between herself and her landlady, Ngozi Uzoma, as well as forging the signature of a witness, Titilayo Opeyemi. These documents were then allegedly submitted to the Bank of Industry to secure a loan,” Omodeinde said.

The suspect remains in SFU custody for interrogation as authorities work to uncover all the details surrounding the case. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
