Police Arrest Fake Retired US Military Officer Terrorising Ondo Community

The Ondo State Police Command arrests a man, identified as Falade, for allegedly impersonating a retired United States (US) Navy Captain (Fake) and causing unrest in the Idogun community, Ose Local Government Area.
Ondo State Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Afolabi, disclosed the arrest while addressing journalists in Akure on Monday, March 24, 2025. He confirmed that authorities prosecuted Falade in court and remanded him at a correctional facility in Akure.
“A report was made about one Falade, who claimed to be a retired Navy Captain from the American military. For years, he has been a menace in Idogun. When I reached out to invite him to my office for his side of the story, he responded with insults. Despite this, I remained calm and later called for a peace meeting, which he attended alongside the Ose LG chairman and other stakeholders. Unfortunately, instead of de-escalating tensions, he worsened the situation upon his return,” Afolabi stated.
The police commissioner further alleged that Falade collaborated with accomplices posing as airforce personnel and possessed a fake passport.
“He moves around with fake documents and fake airforce officers who aid his criminal activities. Just last week, reports indicated that he and his men abducted some farmers, confiscated their belongings, and disappeared with them. That was the final straw,” Afolabi added.
Following his arrest, Falade faced a 10-count charge in court and was remanded in custody. However, his supporters in Idogun reacted violently, staging protests, blocking roads with a felled tree, and setting bonfires.
“In an effort to restore order, our officers were deployed, but one officer sustained a machete wound to the head during the confrontation. Despite the violence, we successfully restored calm to the area,” Afolabi noted.
The police commissioner urged residents to seek lawful solutions to community disputes rather than resorting to criminal activities and violence.
