PDP Candidate Ighodalo Files N20 Billion Defamation Suit Against Oshiomhole Over Alleged Ponzi Scheme Involvement
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the upcoming Edo State governorship election, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, has filed a N20 billion defamation lawsuit against Senator Adams Oshiomhole over claims linking him to the ‘Planwell’ Ponzi scheme.
Oshiomhole made the accusations during a political rally on September 14, 2024, in Benin City, alleging that Ighodalo was behind the fraudulent scheme that swindled numerous Nigerians. Ighodalo, through his legal team led by Ayo Asala, SAN, is also demanding an immediate retraction and apology to be published on national television and in three newspapers.
Ighodalo described the allegations as “baseless, false, and malicious,” asserting that they were fabricated by Oshiomhole for political gain. He emphasized his impeccable reputation as a legal practitioner and corporate leader, distancing himself from any involvement in the alleged Ponzi scheme.
In his letter, dated September 16, 2024, Ighodalo demanded N20 billion in damages for the harm caused to his reputation, warning Oshiomhole of legal action if the demands were not met.
