Patience Jonathan Backs Remi Tinubu, Rejects Rumours Of 2027 Aso Rock Return

Amid growing rumours that former President Goodluck Jonathan may be eyeing a 2027 comeback, former First Lady Patience Jonathan has dismissed any such plans, clarifying that neither she nor her husband will seek a return to Aso Rock.
“I’m Not Going Back,” Patience Jonathan Declares
Speaking at an awards ceremony in Abuja on Saturday, May 9, Patience Jonathan publicly pledged support for First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu and confirmed she would campaign for her in the upcoming 2027 elections.
“I’m not running. I’m not going back to the Villa,” she said. “Let my friend be there. I’ll ‘wahala’ her the way she did to me back then!”
Dismissing 2027 Comeback Speculation
Her remarks directly counter widespread speculation that northern political figures are courting Jonathan for a 2027 presidential bid. By standing with Remi Tinubu, she signals clear loyalty to the current administration.
Supports Power Rotation for National Unity
Patience Jonathan also emphasized her commitment to rotational leadership, calling it essential for national progress and unity.
“I believe in turn-by-turn. When it’s your turn, I will support you. When it’s not your turn, step back,” she said.
Personal Ties with Remi Tinubu
Recalling their close bond, Patience noted that their friendship began during their time as wives of deputy governors and governors. She said the Tinubus supported her family during the 2011 presidential campaign, a gesture she hasn’t forgotten.
“I cannot abandon my friend, whether you like it or not,” she declared.
