Over 200,000 Canadians Sign Petition To Revoke Elon Musk’s Citizenship Over Trump Ties

More than 200,000 Canadians have signed a parliamentary petition calling for the government to revoke Elon Musk’s Canadian citizenship, citing his ties to U.S. President Donald Trump and concerns over Canadian sovereignty.
The petition, initiated by Qualia Reed from British Columbia and sponsored by New Democrat MP Charlie Angus, argues that Musk has acted against Canada’s national interests by aligning himself with Trump, who has made repeated threats to annex Canada as the 51st U.S. state.
Filed in Canada’s House of Commons on February 20, the petition states that Musk is effectively “a member of a foreign government that is attempting to erase Canadian sovereignty.” It calls on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to immediately revoke Musk’s citizenship and passport.
Musk, who was born in South Africa, holds Canadian citizenship through his mother, Maye Musk, a former model and dietitian from Regina, Saskatchewan. He is also a U.S. citizen and owns major American companies, including Tesla, SpaceX, and social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
The petition comes amid growing unease in Canada over Trump’s second presidency, which began on January 20, 2025. Trump has made repeated threats to impose steep tariffs on Canadian goods and has publicly boasted about annexing the country.
Trump has mocked Trudeau, referring to him as a “governor” rather than a prime minister. Meanwhile, Musk has publicly supported Canadian Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre, who is widely seen as Trudeau’s main political rival.
According to CTV News, Canada can revoke citizenship in specific cases, including fraud, misrepresentation, or withholding information during an immigration application. A person whose citizenship is revoked must wait 10 years before reapplying.
The petition signing period runs until June 20, 2025, and Parliament is scheduled to resume on March 24—though a general election could be called before then.
Musk has not directly addressed the petition but has continued his support for Trump. At a recent conservative gathering in Maryland, he waved a chainsaw in the air, seemingly mocking concerns about his role in Trump’s administration.
He also reposted a message on X, stating: “Of course we support Doge! Those who don’t support it are un-American.”
As the petition gains traction, it remains to be seen how the Canadian government will respond to the unprecedented request to revoke Musk’s citizenship.
