Otu Oka-Iwu Abuja Condemns Dr. Reuben Abati’s Comment
Otu Oka-Iwu Abuja is deeply concerned with the recent comments made by Dr. Reuben Abati on Arise TV, suggesting that Igbos do not sell land to mon-indigenes. Such statements are not only misleading but also harmful, as they perpetuate stereotypes and sow discord among different ethnic groups in Nigeria.
Dr. Abati statement is not only hurtful to Ndi Igbo who have sold lands to non-indigenes but also undermines the unity and progress of our country. It is important to recognise that Ndi Igbo, like any other group, are diverse and individual actions cannot be generalised to an entire industrious community. Many land owners in Igbo land have sold land to non-indigenes, fostering economic growth and unity. To suggest otherwise is to ignore the contributions of countless Igbo individuals who have embraced inclusivity and cooperation. It is rather essential to recognise and celebrate ndi Igbo for making Nigeria a true federalism. Ndi Igbo without doubt are the only ethical group in Nigeria that fosters an environment of inclusivity in Nigeria because we are everywhere!
Infact, Ndi Igbo examplifies a remarkable diversity and widespread presence, contributing significantly to the country’s socio-economic landscape. Ndi Igbo integrate into their host communities, respecting and adapting to local customs and promoting unity and community development.
The widespread presence and diverse contributions of Ndi Igbo across every local government area in Nigeria highlight our integral role in Nations growth and development. Our adaptability, resilience, and commitment to unity are valuable assets to Nigeria’s multicultural society. It should be commended and not used as a divisive innuendo.
Dr. Abati’s comment is nothing but disparaging and it is unacceptable because it goes against the principle of equality, justice and unity that we hold dear. We condemn it in strong terms and, call on Dr. Abati and others to refrain from making sweeping generalisations that can fuel ethic tensions and strongly advice against divisive rhetoric.
Instead of such unfortunate statements, let us focus on promoting understanding, respect, and unity among all Nigerians. Our strength should be directed towards on building a Nation where every individual, regardless of their ethnicity, can thrive and contirbute to the common good. It is through mutual respect and collaboration that we can build a better future for our Nation.
