Otti To Boost Justice Delivery With 1,000-Capacity Judiciary Complexes In Abia

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has announced plans to begin the construction of two 1,000-capacity state-of-the-art Judiciary Complexes in Aba and Umuahia within the next month. The facilities, according to the governor, will be fully digitised and equipped with high-speed internet to enhance judicial efficiency and modernize court operations.
Speaking at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Chapel, Umuahia, during the 2025/2026 Legal Year thanksgiving service of the Abia State Judiciary, Otti said the initiative aligns with the theme of this year’s legal year, “Reforming Abia State Justice Sector in the Digital Era.” He emphasized that his administration has maintained the independence of the Judiciary, citing the recent employment of new judges as evidence of non-interference by the Executive.
“I have approved the request of the Honourable Attorney General to digitally transform the entire Judiciary and move away from the era of manual file handling,” Otti said, reaffirming his administration’s support for technological advancement in justice delivery.
The governor also revealed that 17 new court halls currently under construction across the 17 local government areas of the state are nearing completion and will soon be inaugurated. He commended the strong working relationship between the Executive and the Judiciary, pledging continued collaboration to ensure accessible and effective justice for all Abians.
In her remarks, the Chief Judge of Abia State, Justice Lilian Abai, described the annual legal year event as a time for the Judiciary to renew its commitment to fairness and justice. She underscored the urgency of judicial reforms in the digital age, adding that with innovation and dedication, the Judiciary can restore public confidence and enhance the speed and integrity of justice delivery.
