Okrika Branch’s Monthly Meeting: YCfied! By The Presence Of Y.C. Maikyau, SAN

He was given the opportunity to address members.

In his goodwill message to the EXCO and members, he appreciated the leaders and members of the Branch for their kind words about him, saying that he was really humbled.

The learned silk in his speech said all the successes achieved in the Welfare Committee are because of the help of his members.

The learned silk further said, “I have a very strong conviction that we as lawyers are privileged to come to a profession whose subject of training is justice, so we are graduated and when we are called to the Bar, we are called ministers in the temple of justice, so the person we serve is justice and that is what the nation is yearning for, that is what we are yearning for, as members of the association, you know we are just a microcosm of Nigeria, what happens in Nigeria would neccessarily affect us, but then we must come to the realisation that it is our responsibility to bell this country out of the woods, we lawyers. We can’t continue to look down on who we are because no other profession, not the engineers, not the accountants. No other profession is called to do this. That is why you can give me this opportunity to speak to you because by your training you have risen above traditional bias, traditional prejudice, ethinc prejudice, it is only justice that has risen all of these prejudices and you are the only person who is called to serve justice. So what Nigeria is looking for right now can only be driven and provided by us. That is the reason why, I believe that together we can put our hands on the plough, and drive that process..”

Some members of his entourage were also given the opportunity to lend their voice to YC’s speech.

The Learned Silk’s words were received with shouts of YCfied! from members of the Branch. It was a heartwarming and moving experience.

Amongst YC’s entourage were So Long-Williams, the immediate past Governor of EBF; Lawrence Okojaja, former Chairman, Okrika Branch; Sammie Somiari, SAN; Dumo Barango, Chairman, Degema Branch; Chinaecherem Nwaubani, Secretary, Enugu Branch; Barbara Omosun, former National YLF Chairperson; Jamiu Isiaka, YLF Chairman Okehi Branch; Nwabueze Obasi-Obi, Partner Y.
