Oby Ezekwesili To Speak On Economic Transformation At NBA AGC 2025 Opening Plenary

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has confirmed that Dr. Oby Ezekwesili will headline the Opening Plenary Session of its 2025 Annual General Conference.

The event is scheduled for Monday, August 25, 2025, and will take place under the theme “Stand Out, Stand Tall.” Ezekwesili will address the topic, “It’s the Economy, Stupid,” offering critical insights into Nigeria’s economic challenges and necessary reforms.

Her presentation will examine the country’s fiscal and structural weaknesses, urging urgent action to reposition Nigeria’s economy for sustainable growth. She will also highlight the connection between sound economic policy, strong democratic institutions, and effective justice delivery.

The plenary will bring together lawyers, policymakers, business leaders, and civil society advocates for a robust discussion on shaping Nigeria’s economic future. The NBA has described the session as one of the most anticipated highlights of the 2025 conference.

Ezekwesili is a former Nigerian Minister of Solid Minerals and Education, as well as a former World Bank Vice President for Africa. She co-founded Transparency International and the #BringBackOurGirls movement, both internationally recognised advocacy platforms.

Her career achievements include serving as World Bank Vice President for Africa between 2007 and 2012, where she promoted economic development policies. She also founded the #FixPolitics Initiative, the School of Politics, Policy and Governance (SPPG), and Human Capital Africa.

The NBA noted that Ezekwesili’s address will challenge delegates to embrace excellence, reject mediocrity, and play a stronger role in driving governance reforms. The Opening Plenary is expected to set the tone for the conference, fostering dialogue on economic transformation and national progress.

With Oby Ezekwesili’s expertise and track record, the session is poised to offer transformative perspectives on building a resilient Nigerian economy.
