Obidike Chukwuebuka on the topic of the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State and the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu which have continued to generate mixed reactions across the country.
While the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), legal experts, political stakeholders, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, Femi Fani-Kayode, and Ijaw Youths have strongly criticised the move, others have commended Tinubu’s intervention in the state’s political crisis.
Among those supporting the President’s decision is Hon. Obidike Chukwuebuka, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC). In a statement sent to Vanguard on Wednesday, Obidike argued that Governor Fubara should be grateful to President Tinubu for stepping in and preventing his impeachment.
He pointed out that Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency effectively shielded Fubara from removal, citing Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution, which gives the President the authority to take control of state affairs in times of crisis.
While details of the alleged impeachment plot remain unclear, Tinubu’s intervention has dramatically reshaped the political landscape in Rivers State. His recent meeting with Governor Fubara and key stakeholders, where he emphasized unity and cooperation, further underscored his efforts to stabilize the state.
“As the situation unfolds, Governor Fubara’s political future remains closely tied to President Tinubu’s influence, with potentially far-reaching consequences for the state,” Obidike concluded.
