NUEE Shuts Down AEDC Headquarters In Abuja Over Unresolved Grievances
Electricity workers under the Nigerian Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) partially shut down operations at the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) headquarters on Wednesday, citing unresolved labor disputes.
The union had previously issued directives for a shutdown after AEDC management failed to address key concerns, including casualization of workers and unpaid wages.
In a statement, NUEE declared, “We have reached the end of our ultimatum to the AEDC management regarding our unsettled demands. Please ensure all offices are locked down and secured until our demands are met.”
Protesters gathered at the AEDC headquarters, chanting solidarity songs and holding placards with messages such as “No to Casualisation” and “We Demand Payment of 15 Months’ Salaries and Pension.”
Despite the initial standoff, the strike was short-lived. Adefisayo Akinsaya, AEDC’s Head of Marketing and Communications, downplayed the disruption, describing it as a minor issue that had been quickly resolved.
The Chief Technical Officer of AEDC and the NUEE Chairman confirmed that the strike was called off after an agreement was reached earlier in the day, signaling a temporary resolution to the ongoing labor dispute.
