Nnamdi Kanu’s Case Reassigned To New Judge

The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, has officially reassigned the case of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to a new judge.
Kanu had previously requested Justice Binta Nyako’s recusal from presiding over his seven-count terrorism trial, citing concerns over fairness. While Justice Nyako initially stepped down and returned the case file, it was later reassigned to her, prompting further objections from Kanu and his legal team.
In response, on February 20, Kanu’s lawyers petitioned the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, seeking her intervention.
According to Kanu’s lead counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, the legal team received two official letters on March 7, one from the Chief Justice of Nigeria and another from the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, confirming the case’s reassignment.
Ejimakor conveyed Kanu’s gratitude to the Chief Justice for her prompt response and thanked the public for their support. He reaffirmed that Kanu is ready to stand trial, believing in his innocence, and emphasized the importance of a fair and speedy hearing.
With the case now properly reassigned, Kanu’s legal team is shifting focus to preparing his defense.
