NIMC Reassures Nigerians On Data Security Amidst Allegations
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has responded to concerns raised by certain media outlets regarding an alleged breach of citizens’ data by the private organization, XpressVerify.
In a statement released by Kayode Adegoke who is Head, Corporate Communications of the Commission, it clarified that while it provides NIN verification and other services through licensed partners, XpressVerify is not one of its licensed partners. The Commission expressed appreciation to media partners and whistleblowers for bringing the issue to its attention.
The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NIMC, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, promptly ordered a comprehensive investigation into the matter to ascertain if any of the Commission’s Tokenisation verification agents have breached the licensing agreement, either directly or through sub-licensees.
Engr. Coker-Odusote emphasized NIMC’s commitment to data protection and privacy, affirming that stringent security measures are in place to safeguard the data of all enrollees. She assured that every effort would be made to ensure the safety and security of citizens’ data.
NIMC reiterated its dedication to upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability in managing the data entrusted to it. The Commission emphasized the importance of maintaining public trust and confidence in its operations.
