NILA Immigration Law And Policy Conference: Spotlight On Prof. Cheluchi Onyemelukwe

The Nigerian Immigration Lawyers Association (NILA) is set to host its annual Immigration Law and Policy Conference on November 14-15, 2024, featuring Prof. Cheluchi Onyemelukwe as one of the keynote speakers. Prof. Onyemelukwe, a distinguished lawyer, academic, and international consultant, brings a wealth of expertise in migration law, policy, and human rights.
Currently a Professor of Law at Babcock University, Nigeria, Prof. Onyemelukwe is the founder of the Centre for Health Ethics, Law, and Development (CHELD), where she addresses the intersections of migration, health, gender, and human rights. With significant contributions to Nigeria’s national migration frameworks, including the Action Plan for Nigeria’s Migration Policy and the National Diaspora Policy, her work has been instrumental in shaping Nigeria’s migration landscape.
Prof. Onyemelukwe has collaborated with global organizations like the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and GIZ to improve migration governance and safeguard human rights. Her recent work with the African Union Commission focuses on expanding health coverage for migrants across the continent.
With an academic background that includes a doctorate from Dalhousie University and a First-Class degree from the University of Nigeria, Prof. Onyemelukwe will be presenting on the sub-theme: “Strengthening Policy and Legislative Frameworks for Migrants’ Rights in Nigeria.”
This year’s conference promises a robust exploration of key issues in migration policy, with Prof. Onyemelukwe’s address anticipated to provide insights into Nigeria’s efforts to enhance protections for migrants.
