Nigerian Military Vows To Prevent Anarchy Amid Planned Protests

The Nigerian military has issued a stern warning to the organizers of the upcoming nationwide protest against economic hardship, cautioning against any form of violence.

At a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, emphasized that the military will not permit anarchy in Nigeria.

General Buba highlighted concerns that the protest organizers aim to replicate the recent violent protests in Kenya.

“While citizens have the right to peaceful protest, they do not have the right to mobilize for anarchy and unleash terror,” he stated. “It is clear that the contemporary context of the planned protest is to mirror the outrage in Kenya, which is violent and remains unresolved.”

He further added, “The level of violence being envisaged can only be described as a stage for anarchy. The Armed Forces, on its part, will not stand by and allow anarchy to befall our nation.”
