Nigerian Lawyer, Seun Bakare Wins Salzburg Global Fellowship
Seun Solomon Bakare, a Nigerian lawyer and activist, has been named one of the 2023 Salzburg Global Fellows on Education.
As a 2023 Salzburg Global Fellow, Bakare joins 20 other fellows to build new insights and aggregate perspectives and experiences from relevant sectors, areas of expertise and regions, to rethink the role education can play in supporting citizens with the skills and behaviours to thrive and live harmoniously in our complex 21st century societies.
Since 1947 and for close to 80 years, the prestigious Salzburg Global Seminar has attracted thousands of leaders and emerging leaders from over 170 countries.
“Our Education Programs, which fall under the Salzburg Global Center for Education Transformation, focus on influencing systems transformation efforts by developing new approaches to critical and emerging issues and providing unparalleled opportunities to step back, ask big questions, and think differently about what to aim for and how to get there,” the Salzburg Global Seminar states on its website.
Collectively, these alumni, known as Salzburg Global Fellows, are lifetime members of an extensive network that supports their professional growth and amplifies their impact worldwide.
Bakare is a seasoned leader in the UK’s charity sector. He was former Director of Programmes at Amnesty International Nigeria.
At the Leicester LGBT Centre, where he is currently CEO and the first person of colour to be so appointed, he employs research, campaigns, advocacy, human rights education and strategic litigation to make change happen.
