Nigerian Immigration Lawyers Association (NILA) Appoints Dr Roland Otaru, SAN As New Trustee
The Nigerian Immigration Lawyers Association (NILA) has welcomed a new Trustee, Dr. Roland Otaru, SAN, FNILA, in a move aimed at fortifying governance structures and advancing the Association’s strategic objectives. The appointment, made during the Association’s Special General Meeting (SGM) on Thursday, March 21, 2024, marks a significant transition as Dr. Otaru assumes the role previously held by Alhaji Giwa Maroof Abdul, who has redirected his focus to other endeavors.
Dr. Otaru, a distinguished member of the body of benchers and the current Chairperson of the NILA-Legislative Advocacy & Law Reform Committee, brings a wealth of experience in corporate governance to the Board of Trustees. He joins esteemed colleagues including Professor Epiphany Azinge, SAN, FNILA (Chairman & NILA President), Dame (Chief) Barr Mrs. Georgina Ehuria-Arisa, Dr. Sirajo Yakubu, and Prince Ebere Nwokoro (NILA First Vice President).
In addition to the appointment of Dr. Otaru, NILA also announced the elevation of Barr (Mrs.) Pamilerin Akabunwa, Barr Lawrence Umudu, and Barr Agbonwanneten Osawaru Erimwinorosee to the positions of Assistant Publicity Secretary, Assistant Welfare Secretary, and Assistant Legal Adviser, respectively. The Registrar-NILA Training Faculty, Mrs. Ifeoma Ukachukwu, presented the report of her committee at the SGM, revealing that the 2024 NILA Annual Immigration Law & Policy Conference themed “New Realities In The Immigration Law & Policy Space In Nigeria” is slated for November 14th and 15th, 2024.
NILA, a voluntary association comprising lawyers, law teachers, and policy advocates specializing in immigration law in Nigeria, is dedicated to promoting the development of fair and equitable immigration laws and policies in the country.
