Nigerian-American Lawyer Derek Obialo Sworn In As Associate Judge Of 240th District Court, Fort Bend County, Texas
Derek Obialo, a distinguished Nigerian-American lawyer was officially sworn in as the Associate Judge of the 240th District Court in Fort Bend County, Texas, on New Year’s Day.
The ceremony was presided over by Judge Surendran Pattel, and was attended by Obialo’s family, friends, colleagues, and well-wishers. This milestone marks a significant achievement for Obialo, an Imo State native, who has spent 17 years advocating for justice and fairness in the United States legal system. His career has been defined by an unwavering commitment to the principles of law and equity, playing a crucial role in protecting the rights of individuals and institutions.
Reflecting on his appointment, Judge Obialo shared his gratitude, saying, “I’m honored and humbled to be sworn in as Associate Judge. Obialo, who hails from Abba in Nwangele Local Government Area, Imo State, Nigeria, graduated with an LLB from Abia State University, Uturu in 1990, and completed his Barrister-at-Law qualification in 1991 at the Nigerian Law School, Lagos. He further earned an MBA from Huston Christian University (now Houston Baptist University) in 2003 and a Juris Doctor from the University of Miami in 2007. Before becoming an Associate Judge, Obialo practiced law for 17 years, specialising in construction law and business litigation. He has also been an active member of the Texas College of the State Bar and has received numerous community awards for his contributions to public service. The ceremony also saw the presence of his parents,Chief Sir DC and Lady DC Obialo, his wife Dorothy, children, and many other family members and friends. The news of his swearing-in has been met with widespread praise and heartfelt congratulations from family, colleagues, and the community.
