Nigeria Police Reactivate Digital Tinted Glass Permit System To Boost National Security

The Nigeria Police Force has officially reactivated its digital Tinted Glass Permit (TGP) system to address public safety concerns and improve transparency.
Online Platform for Easy Application
Under the directive of Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, the Force announced the resumption of the permit process via a secure portal: https://possap.gov.ng. The system allows Nigerians to apply for permits online using NIN, TIN, biometrics, and background checks, with a turnaround time of 72 hours.
Response to Public Complaints
The move comes after multiple complaints about police harassment over factory-fitted tinted windows. The new system aims to standardize approval, protect lawful users like those with medical conditions, and curb criminal misuse of tinted vehicles.
Enhancing Public Safety
Authorities noted that criminals often exploit tinted vehicles for robbery, kidnapping, and “one-chance” scams. By reactivating the TGP system, the police intend to strengthen law enforcement visibility, aid investigations, and boost national security.
30-Day Compliance Grace Period
Motorists have until May 31, 2025, to obtain the digital permit. Enforcement begins June 1, 2025, after the 30-day grace period. The Force warned officers against extortion or harassment, promising strict disciplinary action for unprofessional conduct.
Public Urged to Support the Initiative
Force PRO ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi reaffirmed the police’s focus on technology-driven, citizen-focused policing. He encouraged the public to comply for safer roads and increased trust in law enforcement.
