Nigeria Launches Automated Landing And Exit Cards To Boost e-Visa System, Border Security

The Federal Government has introduced automated landing and exit cards to enhance the e-Visa system and tighten national border security.
e-Visa and Entry Process Get Digital Upgrade
Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday, Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo and Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo announced the automation of travel documentation.
The new system eliminates paper-based landing cards and streamlines the immigration process for travelers entering and exiting Nigeria.
Nigeria Moves to Modernize Immigration with e-Visa Tech
Keyamo emphasized the government’s commitment to inter-ministerial collaboration. He said the e-Visa launch on May 1, 2025, reflects this synergy.
According to him, the ministries of Aviation and Interior, working alongside NIS, FAAN, and NCAA, are ready for seamless implementation.
Exit and Landing Cards Go Digital
Tunji-Ojo explained that the new process replaces outdated paper cards with automated digital forms filled online before boarding.
Travelers must submit these forms before check-in, and airlines must ensure compliance before allowing boarding.
Tech-Driven Travel for Safer Borders
Tunji-Ojo described the innovation as critical to Nigeria’s national security infrastructure and a key step in embracing digital governance.
He added, “Nigeria must lead in innovation. Our 230 million citizens deserve a smarter, tech-driven immigration experience.”
e-Visa Enhances Access and Protection
Besides simplifying travel, the e-Visa solution strengthens Nigeria’s control over its sovereignty and border management.
Tunji-Ojo assured that more digital enhancements will follow to boost ease of access and national security.
What Travelers Should Know
From May 1, 2025, all travelers must fill out landing and exit cards online before boarding flights into or out of Nigeria.
Airlines must check for compliance, and the NCAA will oversee regulations on proper enforcement.
This digital transition marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s immigration reform and aviation modernization. For smooth travel, visitors and residents must comply with the new online requirements.
