Nigeria Immigration Service Arrests 90 Foreign Nationals For Cybercrime In Rivers State

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), in collaboration with other security agencies, has arrested 90 foreign nationals in Rivers State over alleged involvement in cybercrime activities.

Rivers State Comptroller of NIS, Y.I. Abdulmajeed, disclosed the arrests in a statement on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.

The operation, based on credible intelligence, targeted a hideout where suspects were reportedly engaging in cybercriminal activities aimed at defrauding Nigerians.

A total of 94 individuals were apprehended during the raid, including:
85 Cameroonians
5 Chadians
4 Nigerians
Among the suspects, 74 were males, and 20 were females.

Comptroller Abdulmajeed revealed that all 90 foreign nationals had entered Nigeria through unauthorized routes and lacked valid residence cards or travel documents during interrogation.

Additionally, two Nigerian landlords from Rivers State, accused of accommodating the suspects, were also arrested.

The Comptroller General of the NIS, Kemi Nandap, has directed a swift and thorough investigation into the case to ensure that those involved face appropriate legal actions.

The arrests underscore the ongoing efforts of the NIS and security agencies to tackle cybercrime and regulate immigration activities in the country.
