New MULAN President Vows To Promote Peaceful Coexistence Among Religious, Ethnic Groups

 

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan, Mr. Saidu Muhammad Tudunwada, the recently elected President of the Muslim Lawyers’ Association of Nigeria (MULAN), articulated his vision to foster peaceful coexistence among Nigeria’s diverse religious and ethnic communities.

Tudunwada, who assumed the presidency at MULAN’s 15th Annual General Conference in Ibadan, emphasized the association’s commitment to identifying and resolving potential conflicts to promote harmony nationwide. He expressed intentions to collaborate with groups like the Christian Lawyers’ Association of Nigeria to nurture interfaith harmony and understanding.

Highlighting the association’s role beyond mere advocacy, Tudunwada underscored its mission to serve as a catalyst for public engagement, dialogue, and action. He stressed the importance of addressing common challenges faced by Nigerians while promoting religious tolerance, ethnic cohesion, and national integration.

Acknowledging the significance of MULAN’s membership, including the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, Tudunwada outlined plans to leverage their positions to advance the association’s objectives. He pledged support to Fagbemi and proposed concrete steps to enhance his success, such as endorsing legislative initiatives.

In addressing Nigeria’s multifaceted challenges, Tudunwada called for concerted efforts from all stakeholders. He urged the government to prioritize job creation, education, and youth empowerment while advocating for streamlined governance and accountability.

Promising to safeguard the interests of Muslims across various sectors, Tudunwada vowed to promote Islamic principles in legal proceedings and legislation at all levels of government. With a robust background in law and dispute resolution, he brings a wealth of experience to his new role as MULAN president.

Born in 1969 and a graduate of Bayero University, Kano, Tudunwada holds a Master’s degree in Law, specializing in Company and Labour Relations Law. As the managing partner of the law firm of S.D. Muhd & Co., he is poised to lead MULAN with integrity and dedication, supported by his membership in prestigious professional bodies like the International Bar Association and the Nigerian Bar Association.
