NBA AGC 2025: Legal Experts To Discuss Breaking Chains Of Exclusion In Enugu

 

Prominent legal minds will address the session “Breaking the Chains of Exclusion” at the 2025 Nigerian Bar Association Annual General Conference.

The conference will take place in Enugu State this August, attracting legal practitioners, policymakers, and advocates from across the country.

Hon. Justice Frank Onyiri, Judge of the Customary Court of Appeal of Rivers State, will moderate the session.

Justice Onyiri has served on the National and State Houses of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Oyo State in 2019.

He also chaired the Local Government Election Appeal Tribunal in Rivers State in 2021. He holds the Distinguished Service Star of Rivers State.

Among the speakers is Mrs. Nella Andem-Ewa, SAN, FCIArb, FNIPR, Principal Partner of Lexglobal Partners LP.

Mrs. Andem-Ewa, a Senior Advocate since 2009, served as Attorney-General of Cross River State from 1999 to 2003.

She was the first African woman to address the International Court of Justice as Counsel.

Her decades of legal expertise will guide discussions on dismantling systemic barriers and fostering social inclusion.

Ambassador Dr. Jake Epelle, Founder and CEO of TAFAfrica, will also speak. He is a disability inclusion champion and policy advocate.

Dr. Epelle has contributed to disability rights dialogues at the United Nations and African Union levels.

Hon. Ayuba Gurfi Gufwan, Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, will highlight strategies for promoting accessibility and inclusion nationwide.

A qualified lawyer and polio survivor, Gufwan has championed rights for persons with disabilities through national advocacy initiatives.

Also on the panel is Ikem Uchegbulam, Esq., President of the Association of Lawyers with Disabilities in Nigeria.

Uchegbulam is an advocate, legal consultant, and arbitrator dedicated to breaking the chains of exclusion in the legal profession.

The NBA says the session will explore legal, institutional, and cultural reforms needed to remove chains hindering equal participation for all.
