NBA-YLF, Presidency Partner On Legal Literacy And Access To Justice In Nigeria
The Nigerian Bar Association Young Lawyers Forum (NBA-YLF) has secured a strategic partnership with the Presidency to advance legal literacy and strengthen access to justice in Nigeria.
In a high-level meeting held yesterday, the Special Assistant to the President on Citizenship and Leadership, Hon. Rinsola Abiola, met with NBA-YLF leadership, led by Timothy Clement, Esq., to discuss the implementation of the Legal Literacy Project Awareness Campaign and Strengthening Access to Justice Initiative.
The initiative aims to provide young lawyers across the country with opportunities for professional development, capacity building, and meaningful contributions to national legal reforms. Through this partnership, young lawyers will play an active role in the Access to Justice Project, Legal Literacy Programs, and pro bono legal representation for indigent Nigerians, particularly youths in correctional facilities.
Additionally, the program will expose young legal practitioners to hands-on advocacy, human rights work, and criminal justice reform efforts, equipping them with essential skills beyond traditional legal practice.
Representatives from LEAP Africa and the Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC), who were also present at the meeting, underscored the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration in ensuring effective and sustainable justice sector reforms. A key outcome of the discussions was the decision to formalize the partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
This collaboration represents a significant step in empowering young lawyers while advancing social justice across Nigeria. The NBA-YLF urges young legal professionals to seize this opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the legal and justice system.
